‘Here’ Angela said handing the pills to Kofo and a cup of water.
‘thank you my dear’ Kofo replied and swallowed the pills.
‘how are you feeling now mother?’ Angela asked feeling Kofo’s temperature.
‘fine. A bit, i still miss my daughter. A little’
Angela’s countenance changed ‘i went to see her today’
‘no, she’s been released’
Kofo raised a brow ‘she has been released? How……i…..i thought she kill…ed someone?’
‘she’s innocent, Gi…..they caught the killer’ Angela said. Kofo didnt know that she had testified against Alice and she hoped she never knew because Kofo would hate her for life.
‘my God!’ Kofo placed her hand on her mouth ‘i didnt believe her. I didnt believe my baby, how she must hate me now!’
‘she always hated you mummy, if she didnt hate you, she would never had the guts to lay her finger on you’ Angela said.
‘but i accused her first, didnt i?’
‘thats not excuse enough mummy’
Kofo closed her eyes, she loved her daughter but she didnt want to show it. But deep down in her heart, she wanted the best for Alice, just that Alice wasnt following the right path.
Alice chose to indulge in premarital intimacy with Benjamin, and when Benjamin died, she found out she was pregnant-out of wedlock.
And for a second time, she was pregnant for a man who wasnt her husband and she was even having problems with the man’s daughter. How on earth was she going to get married and enjoy her marriage when the man’s daughter was against her? How?
She wanted the best for her daughter, wanted the very best for her. She wanted her daughter to live a luxurious life, get married to a responsible young man and bear as many children as she wants.
Alice was her only child and what mother would hate her child? It was just that she wanted to make her daughter suffer for the mistake she made 15years ago. She had promised Alice that she wouldnt show her love and she was keeping that promise, not that she didnt love Alice. Or perhaps, she had a strange way of showing the love.
Alice had been in prison and had been tagged a killer and she had believed it.
And then she looked at Angela, the lady was very caring and responsible, unlike her daughter, Angela had no child because she wasnt married. Alice had a child and was expecting another for another man and she wasnt married. And Angela wasnt known for frolicking around with men.
She knew if a lady was dating and she was sure Angela wasnt dating. She wished Alice was as responsible as Angela or kept herself for her husband. If not for the unfortunate rape incident, she was sure Angela would have remained a virgin by now.
Talking about marriage, she decided to talk to Angela about it.
‘Angela, do you have a boyfriend?’ She asked.
Angela shook her head wondering where this was coming from ‘no, i dont have a boyfriend’
‘because i’m not yet ready for a relationship’
Kofo blinked twice ‘you are 30’
‘i know. Its just……’
‘you are a pretty woman my darling, a good cook, a responsible woman, good natured, honest and kindhearted, a complete wife material. You are overdue for marriage my dear’
‘i know. I’m just scared of getting married, because i dont want to leave you mummy. Because i know if i get married and leave, no one would be able to take care of you because i know Alice would be too busy frolicking around with men and taking care of her illegitimate children, both Felix and the unborn one, she might not take good care of you mummy’ Angela said innocently.
Kofo nodded and smiled through her tears, she had never felt loved in such a long while now. She wished for the umpteenth time that Angela was her daughter.
She wished she could forget Alice but she just couldn’t. There was a special bond she shared with Alice.
‘dont you think you are being too hard on your daughter?’ Ximena said standing by the door.
Tony looked up, then frowned ‘when did you enter my room?’
‘a minute ago. I’ve been watching you. You seem so engrossed in whatever you are thinking to even notice i was standing here’ Ximena said.
‘good, i want to be left alone’
‘dont you care about your daughter Tony? Dont you care if she’s feeding fine and sleeping well? Dont you think that she might be crying right now, dont you care about her at all?’
‘i dont see that as any of your business’
Ximena moved closer ‘look Tony, Maria is a teenager, a kid that doesnt know what she’s doing. She was manipulated, that Gil…i cant remember his name manipulated her and she’s suffering so much. She’s remorseful. If she wasnt regretting her actions then why did she tell you what she did?’
‘because her so called manipulator raped her. Only then did she realise her mistakes’
‘that aside, she confessed didnt she? Tony, you should pity her, the poor girl is suffering so much for her mistakes…….’
‘i am suffering too!’ Tony cut in furiously ‘do you think she’s the only one suffering? I’m also suffering for her wickedness, not her mistakes. Maria is wicked and heartless. She always hated Alice, i know but i never knew her hatred for Alice could drive into being the devil. Alice has refused to forgive, she thinks its all my fault, all my fault! And i dont blame her, what woman would want to get married to a man who has a devil for a daughter……’
‘me!’ Ximena said.
‘yes. Tony, i love you. I love you more that heaven itself. And i’m willing to marry you a hundred times over even if your daughter is the offspring of Lucifer himself!’
Tony stared at her, what was she talking about?
‘Tony, i love you cant you see? Knowing fully well you didnt want me by your side, i remained with you. I should have gone back to Mexico the moment your daughter stabbed me with a bottle and you did nothing but no, i remained. I stayed with you, isnt that enough to prove to you how much i really want you? How much i adore and love you?’
‘shhh, just dont say a word’ Ximena said loosening her robe ‘make love to me Tony. Make love to me as if it were our last day one earth’
Her robe fell down.
Tony closed his eyes and turned his back on her ‘Ximena, get out! Put on your clothes and get out this instant if you dont want to leave my house this instant’
‘baby……’ Ximena called seductively as she moved closer ‘i want you to do things to me, touch me in places i’ve not been touched in seven years, uh! I’m so ho.rny right now’
Tony turned towards her furiously ‘Ximena, i swear with Naomi’s life, if you dont get the hell out of here right now, i’m going to deal seriously with you, i bet you!’
‘Ximena! Last warning’
Ximena pouted in fustration, then picked up her robe, put it on and left the room, banging the door furiously.
‘psycho!’ Tony sighed..
Dave smiled and hugged Cindy ‘come in sweetie’
Cindy entered and fell on a couch ‘its a sunny day sweetheart, lets go out’
Dave sighed ‘babe, i’m busy’
‘really? Busy doing what? I could help you’
‘no, i dont need help’ Dave said and sat in front of his laptop.
Cindy shrugged and put on the television.
Dave watched her from the corner of his eyes, how was he going to get her to leave the house before Roxy and the kids show up.
Last time he called, Roxy had said they were in Ibadan, she and the kids might arrive soon and the last thing he wanted was Roxy meeting Cindy here. It was going to cause problems.
‘babe,’ he called.
‘i thought you were going to visit your mum in her supermarket today?’
‘Ella is already there. There’s no point going there any further besides i dont want mum bombarding me with questions about……..never mind!’
Cindy looked at him and shrugged ‘Dave, when are we getting married? When are we going to get serious? We’ve been dating for five years now and you are yet to propose to me’
‘eh?’ Dave sighed. This was the question he had been avoiding since. How was he going to tell Cindy that he had a pregnant wife with two children on their way to Lagos to join him?
He loved Roxy and he loved Cindy as well. He didnt want to lose both them, he loved the both of them in his own way.
Cindy moved closer and sat on his laps ‘darling, i can make you happy. I know i’m going to make a good wife. At least, i can cook and i’m good in bed and i know how to keep a home neat’
‘its not about that…….’
Cindy placed her lips on his. Before the spelling of Jack Robinson, their clothes were everywhere around the parlour, moans and groans filling the room.
Then there was a knock on the door. Dave withdrew immediately as he struggled to enter his trouser cursing everything he could. Roxy was here with the kids. And here he was with a woman.
‘dress up quickly Cindy!’ he whispered fiercely.
Cindy stood up still unclad ‘common babe, lets just finish what we already started nah, i’m yet to c.um oo’
‘are you deaf!’ Dave whispered again ‘someone’s knocking’
‘so? Babe abeg’ she rushed to kiss him but he pushed her down.
The knock came again.
‘hold on baby’ Dave said aloud.
Cindy frowned ‘baby?’
‘my wife! Now get dressed and hide in the bathroom, i will find away for you to escape immediately…….’
The knock came again. Cindy slowly put on her bra and panties, in a snail pace.
‘fu.ck! Put on your cloth……’
The door was pushed open immediately and masked men matched in. Before Dave could cough, he was shot.
Who shot him?
