Is this my time to shine?
My heart raced against joy and happiness. Was I to believe the dream coming true right in front of me.
I’m a love freak, I easily fall in love, it doesnt take a good profession, looks and wealth to sweep me of my feet.
I never imagined being proposed to like this. These are things that only happen in movies. I felt as though I was Beyonce’s cousin.
Love is a beautiful feeling that cannot be explained.
I stood there with my hands on my mouth suffocated with love. I was in shock, I didn’t know how to react. I guzzled in his eyes, everything he said he meant it, I saw the truthfulness in his beautiful eyes.
“Today is a special day for you but most special for me, on this day God gave the world an angel that would later melt the heart of a simple man. I thank the almighty for your life. From the day I first lay my eyes on you l knew you where the one, the woman that would lay on my chest listening to my boring stories, a woman who made herself a part of me even when I hid my feelings. A woman who doesn’t care about the things of the world. A woman who accepted my pain and sorrow, dwindled in them and cried with me. I can go on and on, words are nothing compared to actions. I wanna say less and do more, I will love you the way you deserve to be loved.”
At this moment I was crying like a new born baby, no one has ever made me feel this special before.
“Shiii don’t cry honey, I don’t want to see you cry.”
“What do you expect me to say? I’m speechless. Tears are the form of words I have right now.”
“Mwila I have always known there was something special about you, I have tried so many times to shorn away from your loving heart, something always brings me back to you. You have made me a better man that I am today. I won’t allow another woman to come reap where she didn’t sow. You made this man a better man for yourself.”
“Please Charles say no more.”
“Miss Mwila will you honor this guy the privilege of being his girlfriend.”
“I’m short of words, if you say I made this man better for myself then I”m ready to be his woman.”
“Is that a yes?’
“Yes Charles it is a yes.”
“Get a grimp of yourself dude.”
“She said yes! Yes !Yes! Yes!”
He held me in his arms, he reached for my lips. I didn’t care who was watching, I kissed Charles like it was on our wedding day. Lulu and the girls were screaming like girls at a hockey game.
Charles is full of surprises, he caught me off guard. This was the best birthday. I got the gift of life the man of my dreams and a bonus on top of it my BMW.
I got the keys to my baby, I got in. Charles sat behind me. “Madam I want you to drive me in your car.” “Fasen your sit belt sir and enjoy the ride.”
I drove around in my new car, my first car.
It felt comfortable…
Lots of birthday presents awaited me. Charles bought a new Samsung galaxy S8, some shoes, clothes, hand bags, comestic and hair extensions. I put everything for later.
The party was on fire, the girls drank, danced and braii_ed. We partied until 2 in the morning. Mack and Naomi left, Lulu was in the company of her mysterious man cuddling and kissing.
Me: Wena get a room, you two look horny.
Lulu: I need some of that vitamin D.
Me: hahahaha you are insane.
Lulu: See you guys.
Carol slept in the guest room.
Charles and I shared his bedroom, after all we are a confirmed couple. It was a beautiful night. A lot happened, I think the kissing and touching went on. The rest is history. Finally the moment I waited for was here.
I woke up to slow jams by #AllForOne and breakfast in bed.
“Hey sunshine waki waki.”
“It’s morning already?”
“Yes beautiful, you can sleep all you want.”
“Woo oo wait! You have to first give me a kiss of life then eat my food then go back to bed.”
“Babe can’t I sleep then do all that later.”
“Say what! Don’t forget I’m entitled to my morning kisses. Don’t deprive me of my rights.”
“Alright! Alright! I will kiss you.”
“That’s my woman.”
I gave Charles his kiss. . . I ate my breakfast as he watched me.
Charles: You know I love you right?
Me: You do?
Charles: You doubting me?
Me: I know you do.
Charles: Do you feel the same way?
Me: I would be cursed if I didnt.
Charles: Do you know how old I am?
Me: Not really. . . . It’s not important. Age is just a number.
Charles: I want you to know that this is not some child play love. I’m serious about us, if permitted I will wife you.
Me: Hmmmmmmmmnmm okay.
Charles: You don’t want that?
Me: I do.. . .
Charles: I know you are not ready. I will give you time to complete your education.
Me: Thank you Charles you are the best.
Love was in the air, Charles and I showered, ate and spent nights together.
I drove to campus in my BMW, people gossiped about my new car, they said all they wanted. I didn’t mind being their source of talks.
One late afternoon I was in the Library studying for the exams, Angela walked towards me.
Me: Please Angela leave me alone, this is not the place for what you want to start.
Angela: Wait! Don’t go just yet.
Me: As you can see this is a school library, I don’t want to end up fighting with you.
Angela: It’s not what you think.
Me: What is it? Haven’t I said sorry for everything?
Angela: I’m here to say sorry for the things I did and say to you, Mwila please forgive me.
Me: Are you being for real?
Angela: I’m really sorry.
Me: I hold nothing against you.
Angela: Does that mean we are friends.
Me: Yes silly we have always been friends.
Angela: Thank you.
Me: You are welcome old friend.
I was glad Angela and I settled our differences. Lulu was thrilled hearing the news of her girls getting back together.
Exams were tough, with the help of my babe, my family and friends I managed to do my best. It was left to the markers and the almighty above.
After the exams I traveled to Mufulira, my parents were happy to see me.
I enjoyed eating home cooked meals. I spent most of my time indoors, chatting with Charles. We video called each other not to talk of phone calls.
My three weeks visit to Mufulira felt like a decade. I missed Charles very much. He complained about my absence in his life. I had no option than to travel back to Lusaka.
Dad drove me to Mbwe station, we were lucky to find the first bus. He bought the ticket, he gave me pocket money. He waited for the bus to start off, that’s when he drove off.
I wasn’t feeling well, I kept on throwing up. I slept all the way to Lusaka, by 13 I was in Lusaka. Charles came to pick me up by the station.
You could tell the happiness on his face that he was happy to see me.
Charles: I cannot believe this.
Me: It’s me you are seeing in flesh.
Charles: I missed you.
Me: I missed you too.
Charles: By the way your friend visited last week, she came looking for you.
Me: My friend?
Charles: Yes it’s like you didn’t tell her you were leaving?
Me: I told all my friends I was leaving. What did she say her name was?
Charles: I cannot really recall.
Charles: No come on I know Lulu and Naomi, she is your friend.
Me: Who. . . . . Angela?
Charles: Yes I think so, she introduced herself as Angie.
Me: I guess she thought I got back.
Charles: You look pale what’s up? Did you eat anything on your way?
Me: I failed, I have been feeling weak and dizzy. I threw up the whole way.
Charles: We should get you to a doctor.
Me: Nah it’s not necessary. I need to rest, I will be better when i woke up.
Charles: I have to get back to the office. See you later.
Me: Do not be late.
Charles: Have a bath and enough rest.
Me: Thank you babe.
Charles hurried back to the office. I had my shower. Called Lulu for our usual chat.
Me: aHey you.
Lulu: My lost sister.
Me: You are insane.
Lulu: I miss you.
Me: Me too.
Lulu: When are you coming back?
Me: I just got in.
Lulu: You couldn’t tell me you where coming.
Me: I wanted it to be a surprise.
Lulu: I’m not surprised.
Me: Hahahaha crazy you.
Lulu: How is everyone back home?
Me: They are fine.
Lulu: What about you and your man?
Me: Charles is okay, I’m fine too though having a slight fever.
Lulu: Fever? Did you sleep under a mosquito net?
Me: I did.
Lulu: Have you been condomizing?
Me: Shut up I’m safe.
Lulu: Get well soonest.
Me: I will.. . . Thank you.
Lulu: When do I see you?
Me: Tomorrow afternoon.
Lulu: Okay madam head over heels.
Me: Get lost, I’m tired. . I need to get some rest.
The next day I went to Kabulonga at my aunt’s place. I took the things my dad sent for her later on I met up with Lulu. She was going on about how I gained.
Lulu: Are you sure you are not pregnant?
Me: I’m fine Lulu.
Lulu: I hope so. . . . I’m not ready to be an aunt.
Me: You are not going to be an aunt.
Lunch was great, Lulu is food to my soul, she makes my world go round.
Charles came to pick us, we dropped Lulu by the boarding house. We drove to his house.
The dizziness went on for a week, I visited the doctor for a check up. I received the shocking news of my life.
Doctor: Miss Mwila it’s nothing serious or life threatening.
Me: Does that mean I’m fine? All is well healthwise?
Doctor: You are in good shape, a mini you inside is fine too.
Me: What do you mean?
Doctor: Congratulations madam you are pregnant.
Me: I’m pregnant? How? I have been taking the contraceptive pill.
Doctor: It’s normal to get pregnant when you are on the pill.
I was kind of disappointed in myself nonetheless being pregnant for Charles wasn’t a bad thing. I imagined how Charles was going to .
I got home, prepared his favorite meal while I waited for babe to get back, I was anxious to share the news of our little one.
When he got home, we had dinner together. I broke the news to him, I gave him baby shoes and asked him to guess.
“These are baby shoes.”
“what does that mean?”
“They are shoes babies wear?”
“You are almost there?”
“Is this what i think it is?”
“What do you think it is?”
“You are pregnant?”
“Say what! Repeat what you said.”
“You are going to be a daddy.”
With tears in his eyes, Charles kissed my belly. “Hey little one, this is daddy. I love you and mummy so much.”
I received a massage, rules were set on the do’s and dont’s. I was cautioned to be careful with I eat and wear.
“I know how much you love high heels and tight clothes. From now on its just flat shoes and lose clothes.”
Charles was now exaggerating things. Anyways I agreed to his demands.
Early Saturday morning there was a knock on the day, Charles was dressing up so I attended to it.
“What a pleasant surprise? What brings you here this early hour?” I said while giving her a hug.
“My baby needs her father, I’m here so she can be staying with the father.”
“Her father? What do you mean?”
“Like i said she needs her father too.”
“You are pregnant as well? Congratulations but what has your baby father got to do with us?”
I stared at Charles who stood in the hall way.
