You know that feeling you get when you have been told that you won a jackpot, only to be told again that it was all a mistake someone else won and not you.
My legs froze the moment Naomi asked if I had anything to do with Mark. The last thing I wanted was for Mark and Naomi to have any kind of history because I was developing unexplainable feelings for Mark. I looked at Naomi expecting an explanation for what she had just whispered to me.
She smiled from mouth to mouth telling me to take a chill pill and calm down. I looked at her with a sigh of relief and anger at the same time but I entertained her stupidity anyways.
My new found bae and I drove to Woodlands to visit some of his relatives. I met his sweet granny mother who was a wonderful person, me and her clicked from the moment we met. His aunt was an amazing person as well so was the rest of his relatives. I got close to granny we talked about alot of things. She told me stories of how they suffered in the colonial rule as I contributed by asking her questions. She later asked me to prepare beans and rice for her, my heart raced. How was I going to cook beans within a short period of time? Lucky enough they had some cooked beans in the freezer. I went to the kitchen and Mark followed me. We prepared granny’s food together thereafter I took the food to granny. Granny tested the food and complimented my cooking. Mark gave me a priceless look followed by a wink.
I don’t know what happened but I got attached to Mark’s family especially his granny, that somehow earned me a spot in Mark’s heart. Dude was impressed for the fact that I got along with his granny. He told me the woman held a special place in his heart and he jokingly said she was his love at first sight. We said our goodbyes but granny wouldn’t let us go. She suggested we stay a little bit longer or better yet spend a night, after debating and arguing with granny we managed to convince her and left. We promised to visit her and cook her some more nice food.
“My granny has never been so friendly with a stranger like she was towards you today”.
Woow that makes me the luckiest person right?
“Yes it does because you are truly an angel sent from above, thank you very much Mwila”.
Come on dude what is your problem? Your granny is more like mine.
“You are surely intelligent then I thought.”
“Ohhhh okayyyyy if you say so.”
“As a treat for you being my granny’s new found friend and for cooking her the nicest food am taking you out, choose a place and I will take you there.” Hmmmmm that’s sounds daring and tempting, are you serious about that?
“Come on young lady why would I joke about a thing like that?”
I wouldn’t know . . . . you tell me.
“Listen to me missy my granny is the most precious woman in my life and you having to put a smile on her face, you have won a place in my heart and you deserve to be rewarded.”
I was speechless as well as happy at the same time, finally someone has appreciated the little things I did for them. That made me feel special and to belong. We drove to KEG & LION for my special treat. Am guessing you are wondering why I choose that place. Well those people have the best chicken wings according to my saliva’s test though they take long to serve their so called wings but I was willing to wait.
When we got to KEG & LIONS we found ourselves a table outside, i ordered my wings, juice and Mark went for castle light. I was very pressed so I excused myself to use the ladies room. On my way out from the ladies I bumped into someone, I apologized to her continued walking before I knew it someone grabbed my hand from behind. I turned to check who it was, a hot punch followed and I hit a table and fell down. I tried to stand up to see where the blows where coming from and get a full glimpse of the whole situation. Fat popo kicked me in the tummy and I was down again, this time I hit myself on the floor. If you are a Zambian living in Zambia today please make sure you insure your life otherwise Zambians have become savages. They don’t care anymore about helping when calamity has befallen you, they would rather take pictures and videos instead of helping you. I wasn’t shocked that nobody came for my aid, fat popo roasted me like a Christmas chicken on a braii stand but where the hell was Mark? Why isn’t he coming to rescue me? O.M.G I miss Lulu and Naomi, if they were here I wouldn’t have my life being embarrassed like this. The door bouncers and waiters managed to get hold of fat popo, I ran to our table like a mad man and Mark was no where to be seen. I asked people who sat next to our table if they had seen him but they refused, some lady said she had seen Mark walk out but where the hell did he go to? I called the waiter who attended to us and requested for the bill, I paid for the bill and went outside to book a cab. As I walked to the car park fat popo came from no where and finished me off, I tried to fight back but she was just too strong for my energy. She beat me like she she was beating her own child. Some good samaritan rescued me and put me in his car, he asked where I stayed so he could give me a lift. Am not the type that trusts stranger but for the first time I accepted a stranger’s help.
As I was getting in the car Mark appeared from nowhere asking why I was getting in another mans car. I wasn’t ready for his interrogations, I just got in the car and asked the dude to drive me home. We drove from East Park mall and Mark tailed behind.
I thanked the guy for reaching me home safely, Mark parked right in front of me as I was about to enter the gate. He got out of the car screaming asking why I was acting up. I told him to go home and that we would talk the next day, he didnt buy it. He followed inside. When we got inside he saw how bruised I was.
“How the hell did you get those bruises?.”
As if you care I answered.
“Come on Mwila dont talk like that, you where under my care and protection, you being bruised like this should worry me.”
That’s none of your business how I got bruised and if at all you cared you wouldn’t have left me alone.
“Mwila am sorry I had received a call from mum, it was very noisy so I opted to go talk from the car until I noticed you get in that strangers car.”
While you were on that phone call I was savagely beaten by some person from my past.
“A person from your past, don’t tell me your ex did this to you, you need to report him to the police. This is too much.”
The person who did this to me is not my ex.
Just some crazy woman, anyways it’s a long story. You won’t understand even if I tell you.
“Please Mwila tell me.”
Ok then let me just take a bath.
“Just grab some clothes we go somewhere.”
“Dont ask too many questions, can we just go?”
“I should know where am going for my own safety.”
“Let’s go to my place, I have a flat where I stay when am in Zambia and a friend is living there.”
I packed a few clothes and we drove to some flat in Makeni. Mark showed me the bathroom, i went to shower, I called out for him to come help me clean my wounds. He bathed me, he cleaned my wounds with a clean sterilizer. I dont know how things got heated up. I kissed Mark, he didnt respond to my kiss. I kissed him a second time.
“Are you ready for this?.”
I just nodded my head and kissed Mark.
He started responding to my kisses, I must confess that he was a good kisser, am nominating his lips for the most tender lips in this world and so are his kisses. Mark didnt have a big one eyed snake like Francis but he surely knew how to use his anaconda.
I don’t know why our senses leave us when we are about to do stupid things and only come back to us when we would have already done the stupid things. I had never felt so loose and useless like I felt that day after sleeping with Mark. I didnt wanna look at him, he tried to start a conservation with me, I just stood there staring at him. He asked what was wrong with me and why the stare. I just asked him to drive me back to the boarding house. There was silence in the car, we were both quiet. When we reached the boarding house I thanked Mark for everything and went in, he wanted to come in so we can talk but I refused.
I went in crying and cursing, Lulu and Nana were no where to be seen, they must have been out doing what they are good at. I received a text from Mark and it read;
“Sorry for everything that happened, please accept my apology and find a place in your heart to forgive me, I don’t know what I did wrong. Don’t punish me like this I really need to see you.”
I felt more stupid after reading that text, I replied to him saying whatever happened between us is past and that am not loose even though I acted in such a manner.
He replied back saying he didn’t think of me as a loose woman just because we had sex and that I should just give us a chance to talk things over.
I blocked his number on both calls and messages.
A month went by Mark and my aunt kept on coming to the boarding house but I hid from them. I even changed my line, I only gave Charles my new line. Francis followed me both in school and at the boarding house and I told him off.
I got sick, I was loosing appetite, feeling weak. Lulu took me to the hospital, we did a test for malaria and it come out negative. We were advised to do an HIV/AIDS and it came out negative. They checked for my BP and it was normal.
The doctor said it could have been fatigue, he whispered something to Lulu. On our way back we passed through the pharmacy and Lulu got some staff. When we got home, she gave me the staff she bought from the pharmacy and gave me instructions. I did as she instructed. When I was done, I gave it to her and she looked at me with a shocked face.
“Congratulations Mwila you are going to be a mum, I just hope you are ready for this because I warned you about having unprotected sexual intercourse but you wouldn’t listen.”
What do you mean that am pregnant? I exclaimed.
“The results in my hands show that you are pregnant.”
Jesus Christ what have I put myself into. I have slept with two guys in a roll and I never used protection with any of them.
Lord what was I thinking? How will I know who the father of my child is. I literally slept with Mark and Francis in the same week.
